PRANA PRATHISHTA  MAHOTSAVAM

The   events consist of a  number  of  specific  rituals  officiated by the priests when a new deity is installed in a Temple.

Deities  are  generally   carved   in  metal   or   stone.They are   carved or made   by   artistes  from India.With their special talents they carve these beautiful deities.During this Mahotsavam or festivities  these  deities will be given life or ‘prana’  by the rituals performed by our priests. This weekend’s event is to install  SIVA LINGA ,  NAVAGRAHADEVATA, and  UTSAVA  MURTIES  in our Temple.It is extremely important to have Navagraha prathishta in a Temple.

Nava is 9  and Navagrahas are  the orbiting satellites. These satellites have a lot of influence on each of us according to our  time of birth.The names of these satellites are Surya(sun) Chandra(moon)Mangala(mars)Budha(mercury)

Brihaspati(guru)Shukra(venus),Shani(Saturn)

Rahu,and Ketu.

Siva Linga ,is the  sacred  symbol  of Lord Siva.Worship of Siva Linga is regarded very sacred and superior because the form makes worship simple while maintaining the truth that God does not have any definite form.

The  3 day events (Aug27,28 and 29^th )    include  Poojas,

Last day,Aug 29^th 11:30 am  there is going to be Siva Parvati Kalyanam as a  big finalee of the events.It is a marriage between Lord Siva and Goddess Parvati.The priests will perform an elaborate wedding ceremony.There will be abhishekam, Alankaram(deities will be decorated elaborately) ,Bhajans, wedding music etc.

The Staten Island Hindu temple celebrated second phase of the Prana Pratistha, from May 23^rd to May 25^th 2008, a three day ceremony during which the consecration of Hindu deities at the temple took place at 1318 Victory Blvd in Staten Island.

With a grand ceromony of Prana Pratishtha Sri Shiva and Parvati, Sri Kartikeya, Sri Durga Mata, Sri Mahalakshmi, Sri Saraswati, Sri Radha Krishna and Sri Hanumanji has been brought to life at the temple. The deities have been brought specailly from Rajasthan to the desires and efforts of the Staten Island community. All the deities have been made in white marble except Sri Kartikeya which is made of granite. This marks the second phase of the consecration of deities at the Staten Island Hindu Temple which is dedicated to Shri Rama Parivar and the temple will be known as Shree Ram Mandir. This is the only temple dedicated to the deity of Shree Rama in the tri-state.

The temple is the dream of the small Hindu Community of Staten Island who put in the effort to make it possible. This will give the Staten Island Community a chance to offer their prayers right here in Staten Island instead of traveling some distance to Maha Vallabha Ganesha temple in Flushing, Queens and Sri Venketeswara Temple in Bridge Water, New Jersey.

The temple will serve to the prayer needs of the Hindu Community besides offering facilities for community and cultural events. In addition to cultural activities which are an integral part of Hindu culture, educational activities, yoga sessions and ‘Balavihar’, a school for younger children, are also run by the temple for the benefit of its members and the devotees.
